Hard Cider Hot Toddy

This hot toddy is made from hard cider, whiskey, and all the cinnamon spice flavors. All the best fall flavors in this delicious cocktail!

It’s no secret we here at NellieBellie love our coffee drinks. And our beer. Gosh do we love our coffee and beer! Strangely though, we really really don’t like coffee beer. Yuck!

Although, we do have an amazing the Ultimate Crockpot Chocolate Cake that is made with stout! So rich and decadent!

Anyways, gluten isn’t the friendliest of ingredients for me to have in my belly. I am not in need of a completely gluten-free diet, but I find large concentrations of gluten bother me. Beer has a high concentration of gluten. Sigh. So lately I’ve been testing various alcoholic drinks that I can have for football watching, girls nights, you know…all the times a good stiff drink is lots of fun.

This Apple Cider Hot Toddy is one of my latest favorites. It’s warm, comforting, easy to make, and uses ingredients I usually have on hand. And it gives me a great excuse to buy my favorite corn whiskey (isn’t that packaging the most charming thing you ever did see!).

Can I use any liquor for a Hot Toddy?

Not any liquor but whiskey, bourbon, and brandy are great for a Hot Toddy. Use your favorite and you’ll love it!

A hot toddy made with hard cider and whiskey. So good for fall.

Can you get drunk off hot toddy?

Heck yes you can get drunk off a hot toddy! I used Angry Orchard Cider for my apple cider ingredient. That makes this drink SUPER potent. I love it. I have to sip it, often re-heat it, and wince a bit after each sip. But it makes me feel like I’m growing hair on my chest and am starring in a John Wayne flick. Boo-ya!

Most of you should go with straight non-alcoholic apple cider or juice so that you don’t pee your pants after taking a sip. But, for the brave few…the harder version of this apple cider hot toddy might be just the ticket for a friday night!

Even a classic Hot Toddy, which uses only a single alcohol (usually whiskey or brandy), still packs a punch. Drink enough of those, of COURSE you can get drunk.

Do hot toddies really work to help with colds?

Yes. They do. Whiskey is a decongestant and, like our homemade Ginger Tea, many of the ingredients in this recipe are known for their healing properties

  1. I just bought Cider Boys Mad Bark (hard cider with hint of cinnamon) cant wait to try this with that!!

  2. This is absolutely true, however the distilling process removes the grain and inherently distilled alcohol is considered gluten free. Those with celiac’s disease, however…probably need to be very careful.
