If you’ve been around NellieBellie you know that I grew up going to potlucks almost every week. A potluck or community gala in MN includes a salad table. But not a salad of greens. Nope…these salads are dessert and every child’s dream side dish.

I was born in the Midwest where salad was cherry Jell-o with bananas in it…

and, of course… Snicker Apple Salad.

We would tell our mom that these salads were packed with nutrition, vitamins, protein, fiber, and calcium and we should eat them for breakfast. Sigh. She rarely caved. But we sure enjoyed eating “salad” at church potlucks!

Creamy Apple Snicker Salad in a bowl

Snicker Apple salad key Ingredients:

  • Instant vanilla pudding mix (3 oz box)
  • Cool Whip or similar whipped cream topping, thawed
  • Cream cheese softened
  • Milk
  • Tart apples. I like the sweetness of Honeycrisp. Try granny smiths or golden delicious. The best apples are the ones you already have.

Add-ins and variations to try in your Apple Snickers Salad:

  • Butterscotch pudding instead of vanilla instant pudding mix.
  • Caramel sauce. Add a drizzle of caramel sauce prior to serving.
  • Chocolate chips. If you don’t have snickers candy bars on hand, try using chocolate chips instead. You’ll still have a tasty dessert salad!

How to make Apple Snickers Salad Recipe:

  • With an electric mixer, beat the cream cheese in a large bowl until smooth.
  • Add the pudding mix, cinnamon, and vanilla to cream cheese and mix until combined.
  • Fold in the whipped topping.
  • Stir in the apples & snicker bars.
  • Chill for at least 3 hours.
  • Best eaten the same day.

Can you freeze Snickers salad?

Not really. And believe me, I have tried many times! The apples get mushy and the pudding mixture gets grainy when it thaws. I wouldn’t recommend it.

How far in advance can I make apple salad?

You can leave it in the fridge for about 3 to 4 days before the fruit starts to get mushy. But, you’ll need to stir it every time you take it out because a bit of liquid will seep to the bottom. No big deal but be sure to give it a stir before serving.
