This is a simple, traditional gingerbread cake recipe full of flavor!

Ingredients
1 1/2cupsflour
1teaspoonground cinnamon
3/4teaspoonground ginger
1/2teaspoonbaking powder
1/2teaspoonbaking soda
1/2teaspoonsalt
1/2cupshorteningif subbing butter, use an extra tablespoon of butter. So 1/2 cup and 1 tablespoon of butter.
1/4cuppacked brown sugar
1egg
1/2cupmolasses
1/2cupwater
1 tspvanilla extract
Instructions
Grease a 9 inch round or square pan (go ahead and use a smaller one if needed, just increase your time by about 10 minutes).
Mix flour, cinnamon, ginger, baking powder, salt, & baking soda together. Set aside.
Beat brown sugar, shortening & molasses until fluffy (about 45 seconds give or take).
Add egg & vanilla and beat for 1 minute.
Add 1/2 of the flour mixture and beat until combined.
Add 1/2 cup water and beat until combined.
Add remaining flour mixture and beat just until combined.
Pour into pan and bake in 350 degree oven for 30-40 minutes (use the toothpick method to check!)
Notes
Serve warm (but not burning hot) with whipping cream and cinnamon!! This tastes great re-heated the next day!!NOTE: This recipe makes 15 yummy cupcakes!
